Find the cause.
Fix the right problem.

A leak does not automatically mean the whole system needs replacing. The condition of the guttering, the joint and the supporting brackets all matter.

Dripping joints and seals

A joint can leak when a seal wears, the sections move or debris holds back the water. Explain whether it drips continuously in rain or spills only when the gutter fills.

Loose or damaged brackets

A sagging run may hold standing water rather than carry it to the outlet. Mention any visible movement or detached section, and keep clear of anything that could fall.

Cracks, end caps and downpipes

Small damaged sections, displaced end caps or leaking downpipe connections may be repairable. Material, age and access affect the options.

Useful details
for a repair enquiry.

A clear description helps a contractor decide what needs checking before they quote.

Show where the leak appears

Give the property postcode, approximate number of storeys and whether the problem is at the front, rear or side. Describe the gutter material if you know it.

Mention access restrictions

Include conservatories, extensions, narrow side passages, shared access and parking restrictions. Do not climb or use a ladder to inspect the gutter for the enquiry.

Agree what the quote covers

Ask whether the price includes the affected parts, access equipment, testing and removal of replaced material. Any visit, charges and warranty terms are agreed with the contractor.

Your gutter questions

A few useful things to know before you enquire.

The options depend on the material, profile, condition and whether compatible parts are available. Describe the existing guttering and ask the contractor to confirm their scope.

A blockage can make a sound gutter overflow, while a failed joint can leak even when the channel is clear. Explain the symptoms so the cause can be assessed.

Describe any loose section or water ingress when you call. Attendance is subject to contractor availability and is not confirmed by sending a form. Keep away from loose guttering.
